At Pioneer Camp, we believe that all people are uniquely and wonderfully made in God’s image. Our award winning Special Needs Program was birthed out of our desire over 35 years ago to offer a fun, safe, and transformational camp experience to all young people.

There are two leaders in a chalet with 3-4 ‘typically developing’ campers and one camper with an exceptionality. Both chalet leaders are equipped to meet the needs of the camper, adjusting programming according to the campers’ physical, intellectual, social or behavioural needs and integrating them into the chalet. Campers with exceptionalities have 1:1 support throughout the day. This can be adjusted according to the camper’s independence and ability.

Each camper is valued as an important part of the camp community, so we tailor the camping experience to fit the needs of each child. For instance, a child with autism having sensory issues might need to be introduced into the noisy dining hall by incremental steps. Our staff find ways to make the camping experience positive and inclusive for everyone.
The result has been a powerful experience allowing all our campers, both those with exceptionalities and those typically developing, to build beautiful friendships based on mutual learning, shared experiences and joy. It has also given everyone at camp a deeper understanding of the wonderful and unique image of our God and Creator.

Pioneer’s Special Needs Program has evolved and developed over the years and is now offered in our Girls Camp (ages 11-16), Boys Camp (ages 11-16), Adventure Camp (ages 5-10), and Fuel (ages 14-19) programs. Annually, we welcome over 130 campers with exceptionalities to Pioneer Camp.

Complete the Special Needs Program registration online. When our Director of Special Needs receives the paperwork, a personal meeting will be set up with the camper and his/her parent or guardian. This enables us to prepare our staff in advance to be able to meet the needs of your camper as best as possible and to determine suitability of our program for your child.
The cost for our Special Needs Program is $1,490. Please contact us for more information.
If you have any questions about the program or would like information about availability and pricing, please do not hesitate to contact Emma, the Director of Special Needs below (EAnderson@pioneercamp.ca).
